Privacy Policy
Last updated: 6 August 2026
UltiKnit is an Australian registered business (ABN 64 670 350 027). This policy explains what we do with your information, in plain language. If anything here isn’t clear, please email us at support@ultiknit.com.
Your content
Your projects, patterns and photos are yours. We don’t sell your data, we don’t share it with advertisers, and we never use it to train anything. Your content stays on your device, and is only kept in a private user account on our servers if you have a signed-in free or Pro account, to allow syncing between devices. Exact details are covered below.
What we keep, and where
On your device: UltiKnit works offline. Your projects, notes, photos, stash, saved patterns, charts, imported PDF patterns, timers and preferences are all stored on the device you’re using.
In your account: if you create an account (free or Pro), your email address is saved so you can sign in, and so we know which features to unlock. In addition, your projects, stash, saved and created patterns, your project cover images and your profile picture are saved so they’re accessible to you on your other devices.
In your Pro account: if you subscribe to Pro, your project photos, your yarn photos, label photos, and the PDF patterns you import are saved for syncing across devices.
Some things never leave your device at all: your charts, your body measurements, and your timer history.
Any information stored on external servers is there to allow cross-device syncing and to manage your subscription. If you choose to allow analytics, what’s gathered is used to improve the app.
Your photos
Photos you add are saved on your device. If you have Pro, copies of your project photos and yarn photos are also stored in your private account so they reach your other devices; project cover images sync on any account. Anything stored there is kept in a private area that only your account can read. No other user can see it, we don’t sell or share it, we never use it to train anything, and it’s only ever shown back to you.
Your profile picture is handled differently to other photos, as it’s stored at its own web address so the app can display it. The address isn’t listed anywhere or guessable, but it isn’t locked to your account either — so please treat your profile picture as something that could be seen by someone who had the link.
If you use the camera stash adder for yarn, the photo you take is sent to a specialist text-recognition service so it can read the label. We don’t keep it — it’s read and discarded. The external recognition service handles it under contract, and isn’t permitted to use it for anything else.
If you remove the background from a photo, that happens entirely on your own device. The picture is never sent anywhere.
Payments
Subscriptions are handled by Stripe. Stripe collects your payment details directly — we never see or store your card number. Stripe also keeps its own record of your payments, under its own privacy policy, including for fraud checks and the legal obligations that apply to payment companies.
Analytics
We use Google Firebase Analytics and Microsoft Clarity to understand how the app is used, so we know what to improve. Firebase counts things like which features get opened and how long sessions last. Clarity records how people move through the app, which can include what’s on screen while you’re using it.
Both are off unless you turn them on, in Profile. You can switch them off again at any time, and nothing about the app changes if you leave them off.
Other services
Running an app takes a handful of behind-the-scenes providers: hosting, storage, payments and web fonts. They handle data only to provide their service to us, under contract, and none of them are permitted to use your information for their own purposes.
Where your information is held
Your account data is stored in Japan. The company that provides our database and file storage is based in Singapore, our payment provider contracts through Ireland, and some providers — including for app hosting, payments, analytics, fonts and label reading — operate in the United States. A small amount of routine work such as support and fault monitoring may be done from other countries.
When your information goes overseas we rely on the standard data protection clauses approved for international transfers, or an equivalent approved framework, so it keeps the same protection wherever it goes.
How long we keep it
What’s on your device stays there until you clear your browser storage or uninstall the app. Anything in your account is kept for as long as your account is open. If you ask us to close it, we delete everything within 30 days.
Your rights
You can:
- Export your projects, stash and pattern data at any time — Profile, then Export. This gives you a file of your text data. It does not include your photos or your imported PDF patterns, so keep your own copies of anything you’d hate to lose.
- Correct your details in the app, or ask us to
- Delete what’s on your device by clearing browser storage or uninstalling
- Ask us to delete your account and everything we hold, by emailing support@ultiknit.com — we’ll do it within 30 days
- Ask us what we hold about you, object to how we use it, or turn analytics off
- Complain to a regulator if you’re unhappy with how we’ve responded — the OAIC in Australia, the ICO in the UK, or your national data protection authority in the EU
We are always reachable by emailing support@ultiknit.com. We’ll respond within 30 days.
Children
UltiKnit isn’t directed at children. If you’re under 16 — or under 13 in Australia and the United States — please ask a parent or guardian before creating an account. We don’t knowingly collect information from children below these ages.
Changes
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we’ll tell you in the app before it takes effect. The date at the top always shows the current version.
